There’s a certain kind of love that doesn’t clamor for attention. It doesn’t demand the spotlight. It simply stays. At your feet. In quiet moments. During long days at work. While you fold laundry or stir something on the stove. It’s the kind of love that rests beside you, steady and certain - a presence you may not realize you lean on so deeply until, one day, it’s not there.
When we lost our beloved Wheaten Terrier, Dunkin, the silence he left behind was profound.
It’s not just the stillness that hurts - it’s the space he used to fill, always at my feet. That quiet companionship. That grounding comfort. That love.
And that’s where this project began
The Other Half: Because Love Lives at Your Feet is a photography series honoring the quiet, steadfast connection we share with our dogs. Each portrait is cropped - knees or waist down - focusing not on faces, but on presence. Your dog, always close. Exactly where they want to be. Exactly where you’ve grown used to finding them.
These aren’t just portraits. They’re personality pieces - moments full of texture, memory, and meaning.
Even without showing faces, so much can be revealed:
- Shoes that tell a story - broken-in boots, bright sneakers, barefoot toes in the grass, or heels that have danced through a lifetime.
- Socks with personality - bold patterns, mismatched pairs, or that favorite fuzzy set you never quite retired.
- Hands that speak volumes - resting gently on a furry head, adorned with rings, bracelets, or traces of the day’s work.
- Meaningful details - a leash, a coffee cup, a beloved toy, a worn-in quilt on the porch.

- One image selected by me for the project - a cropped, waist-down portrait that highlights your dog’s perspective and will be included in the final series. You’ll receive this image as a digital file to keep.

This project was created to honor Dunkin’s special place in our hearts, and to celebrate all the dogs who have touched our lives and become part of our stories.
