The SToRY SESSIONS PROJECT

Each of us has a one-of-a-kind journey that shapes our lives, and these narratives offer deep connection and inspiration. The Story Sessions Project emerged from my personal experiences as a Knoxville photographer and the incredible strength I’ve witnessed over the years. These influences have motivated me to rise above challenges and find strength, even during tough times—just as I’ve seen my clients do.

A key moment that ignited this project was photographing Gaby Laurent in February. Gaby was in the midst of writing her memoir, Wrinkles Welcome, about her experience with leukemia while pregnant—a story that embodies resilience and hope. Her unwavering positivity and joy, despite her struggles, symbolize the strength that continues to inspire me. Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, proved to be the perfect photography location, and being part of her journey as a Tennessee photographer was a privilege. Seeing the photograph from our session featured as the cover of her book was incredibly thrilling. It’s a special honor to have my photography accompany her profound story.

This experience made me realize it was time to turn these reflections into action. The Story Sessions Project aims to capture and celebrate the powerful stories of individuals who have faced adversity with courage and grace. As a portrait photographer in Knoxville, my goal is to create images that reflect the strength and resilience of the human spirit. These are more than just portraits—they are visual narratives that inspire and empower. As the mother of a cancer survivor, I understand the importance of sharing impactful stories, and I can assure you your story is in good hands.

In the coming months, we will be sharing more inspiring stories through the Story Sessions Project. If you’re interested in participating in this ongoing project, I’d love to connect. Please reach out to me through the contact button below. I look forward to discovering and showcasing the incredible stories that continue to inspire us all through my work as a Knoxville photographer.

Gaby's memoir, Wrinkles Welcome, will be released on September 17 at Christ Community Church (100 Ogden Ln, Oak Ridge, TN) at 6:30 p.m., and on September 21 at Valley Grove Baptist Church (9000 Sevierville Pike, Knoxville, TN) from 2-4 p.m., with books available for purchase. You can find out more about Gaby and her book by following her on Instagram at @GabyLaurentWrites.
