1942

celebrating history through portraits

As my father’s 83rd birthday approaches, and following the recent passing of my aunt Sandie, I’ve been thinking a lot about legacy and what that means. Seeing the photos shared of her reminded me, once again, how important it is to capture and preserve the lives and stories of the people we love. My aunt’s impact on her dance students was profound, shaping generations with her artistry and care. My father’s life has been book worthy; he definitely has the stories to share - he owned Four Acres, a vibrant bar in Marcy, NY, during the 1970s and 80s, hosting legendary acts like John Mellencamp, The Ramones, and Elvis Costello, and he was drafted to Vietnam in the midst of it all. Their stories are full of history, resilience, and the kind of experiences that deserve to be remembered.

This year, my homeschool daughter, now a junior, has started joining me during my photography sessions to record behind the scenes. She loves history, writing, storytelling, and videography, and as we talked, we realized something important: while I do love the energy my high school seniors bring to a session, I would absolutely love to see these senior sessions - honoring elders - become a thing too! Together, we realized this would be a beautiful way to honor my dad and aunt, connect with new people, and hear their stories firsthand.

In celebration of these lives, we’re offering complimentary portrait sessions in Knoxville for elders 83 and older… okay, okay, 80 and up is fine too! We’re calling this series “1942” because it’s my dad’s birth year - and honestly, it just sounded more interesting to me than 1940.

These sessions are a chance to capture cherished memories, preserve history, and celebrate the stories they carry. A chance to document a hobby, a special relationship, or a daily routine - let’s get creative! What is the first thing that comes to people’s minds when they think of you?

Families are welcome to join - children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren can be part of the portrait to create a meaningful keepsake. Or, if you prefer, a simple individual portrait is beautiful too!

Each session includes:

A waived session fee

One complimentary portrait image

Optional short interview to celebrate your stories and experiences on my blog

Additional images available for purchase, no obligation.

These portraits are more than pictures - they celebrate experience, history, and the lives that have shaped our community.

Offer valid during September in honor of my father’s birthday.
Appointments are limited, so early booking is encouraged.

Interested in participating?

If you know someone in Knoxville or nearby who would love to join, or if you’d like to schedule a Knoxville portrait photography session, I would be honored to photograph and celebrate them.

And if you see Bob on September 13 make sure to wish him a Happy 83rd Birthday!
